Doesn't take very long to melt an iron derrick. This happened about 1999 in an area and depth where they had a similar incident a few years previous. The fire burned for only a few minutes before the driller got it shut in. As soon as he did he went upstairs to answer the phone and it was me! - LOL (Wade) he later told me that the ground started rumbling, and he told his hands to run. They did! He said after he got it shut in he could just barely see them running through the field. It unloaded the hole & flashed very quickly.

Later that same year the Sheriff of that county also hit a dark train on the same road. The did re-paint the road and put up warning signals.
This was the evening tour crew from a close by rig. Although our company technically was not responsible, we still sought care for these guys. They were injured badly. One of my guys found one of them living in terrible pain. He loaded the guy up and took him to the Dr, got some relief for him and then bought him some groceries. I was very proud of my safety hand.
